K-pop As An Industry

Agencies

      

     K-pop has produced an entire industry on its own for instance production houses and event management companies; music publishers; distributors of k-pop music a many other k-pop/hallyu merchandise and service protectors. In terms of earnings the three biggest agencies in the terms of k-pop is S.M. Entertainment, YG  Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment; these three are also recognized as "The Big Three" whose stocks are traded at the Korean exhange. In k-pop these record labels also function as agencies for artist. The are in charge and resposible for things such as recruiting, financing, training, marketing, and publishing new artist as well as managing activities and public relations.

 

 

Sales And Market Value

  

     The Korean music industry grossed nearly $3.4 billion in the first half of 2012, which amounts to a 27.8% increase from the same period last year, according to Billboard. (wikipedia) South Korea's digital music department has surpassed the concrete market in 2006, with more than half of the earnings coming from digital sales. The presence of k-pop on both korean and english websites/social media like facebook and youtube had a major impact on it's global market.

     As a business that augments tourism n a gobal scale, k-pop has fans coming from all over the world to South Korea for tours; which contributes greatly to the total sales and market value of k-pop.

 

 

Trainee System

 

 

     The creation of k-pop idols and the launch of new musicians is taken very seriously in the k-pop industry. In a record label alot of time is spent and put into the production value idols; no one is to debut as a group or soloist until everything and everyne, including performances, have been perfected. A significant amount of effort is invested towards crafting unique and marketable images mixed with sound and strategic promotional, advertising, and marketing decisions to increase the chances of success with the launch of new talent. (wikipedia) For many the journey to stardom start at ages 9-10; if and when they pass auditions they go under firm supervision and begin dancing and vocal lession at night and living together while attending school. Along with singing and dancing, trainees are also being taught foreign languages; notebly english, japanese, and chinese.
